December 4, 2023
At the start of this Advent season, we are excited to highlight the daily Advent devotional series that is published by the North American Baptist Conference. We invite you to follow along with this year’s series by signing up here to receive the devotionals via email each day.
The NAB recently shared more about this year’s devotional series:
“Each year, Christian believers the world over celebrate the God who walked among us by taking part in the season of Advent. This is a time of looking backward at the steps God took to set in motion his plan to redeem all of creation – most notably by sending his Son, Jesus, in the flesh as Immanuel, “God with us” – but it is also a time of anticipation: of how God is still at work in our world and of his eventual return and the restoration of all that is broken.
Every year, the NAB takes part in this celebration, remembering, and anticipation throughout a series of devotionals specific to this season. This year, we wanted to look at the idea of what it means to be with, whether it is God with us, us with our neighbors, or the community of believers with one another.
What does it look like to be with someone?
What kind of people do we need to be to truly reflect Immanuel in our everyday interactions?
What does true Christian community look like?
What does the Christmas story have to say about how we should live today?
Beginning [December 3, 2023] and running through Christmas Day, we will be digging into these questions and discovering together what it means to follow in the steps of the one who “Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being” (Philippians 2:6–7 NLT). To guide the way, we have a collection of collaborators from across the NAB who will bless us with their insights, perspectives, and wisdom.
It is sure to be an Advent to remember. Thank you for being with us along this journey of reflection.”
The first devotional in the series from Sunday, December 3, is available here. Remember, to follow along you can sign up the devotionals each day by completing this form.
