Partnership Spotlight: Union School of Theology

October 21, 2024

by Greg Henson, CEO and President, Kairos University

A few weeks ago, I was in Wales! I had the blessing to share a meal with our friends from Union School of Theology. Clive Bowsher serves as Provost at the school, and Iain McGee serves as Dean of Studies. We are working with Clive and Iain to contextualize Kairos University’s Master of Arts degree.

Theological education in the UK is wrestling with many of the same challenges we experience in North America. Programs tend to be inaccessible and unaffordable. Union School of Theology has responded to this reality by creating opportunities for learning communities to gather around the world and online. Like Kairos, Union partners with local churches to foster localized expressions of learning and formation. They have learning communities throughout Europe, North America, Asia, and Africa.

Our conversations with Union School of Theology have been life-giving because we share a passion for cultivating followers of Jesus who flourish in their vocations for the life of the world. A quick glance at the student stories Union School of Theology shares on its website will help you see that students love the learning but, more importantly, they love the formation and discipleship.

During our time together in Wales, we continued to talk about our plans for the first cohort of students to begin the Kairos Master of Arts program in fall 2025. I also learned more about Union’s connections to local churches. By reconnecting to local churches, the school has seen continuous enrollment growth for nearly ten years. Like Kairos, they are meeting people where they are and walking with them to where God is calling them to be.

It will be exciting to see what God does as we continue to work together!
