The Kairos University community welcomes The Equip Institute as one of its newest contextualization partners. Each partnership creates a unique opportunity for followers of Jesus to flourish in their vocations for the life of the world. This week, we are excited to spotlight this recent partnership.
When the renowned Edinburgh World Missionary Conference convened in 1910, 83% of Christians lived in the Global North. Today, that number has shifted dramatically, with only 31% now residing in the Global North and 69% in the Global South. This inversion in the center of gravity of world Christianity is multifactorial and largely the result of a century of mission activity rooted in the “going,” “proclaiming Jesus,” and “baptizing” aspects of the Great Commission. While lost people coming to Christ is always cause for genuine celebration, a sobering reality remains: Over 95% of pastors globally have no theological training or access to resources. This fact highlights an urgent need to prioritize two equally vital mandates of the Great Commission—the call to “make disciples” and “teach them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
William and Joanna Green co-founded the Equip Institute in January 2024 to address this gap in theological training. Since its inception, the Equip Institute has been a Contextualization partner of Kairos University.
Our vision is to strive towards accessible and contextually relevant theological training for all church leaders, regardless of location or socioeconomic background. The Equip Institute fulfills its vision by leveraging existing networks to establish strategic training sites in partnership with trusted global leaders, some of which are among the least reached people groups.
Together, we ensure that training is Biblically sound and relevant to each unique cultural context.
