We asked Musa a few questions to learn more about his journey at Kairos. Here is what we discovered.

What led you to Kairos University?
I was introduced to Kairos University by Bishop Glenn Kauffman of Capital Christian Fellowship. My journey at Kairos was profoundly transformative. The cornerstone of this experience was the revolutionary competency-based theological education (CBTE) model, which I consider the most significant blessing of my academic career. This innovative approach unlocked my potential and made the entire learning process a genuine joy. This transformative environment was brought to life by Kairos’s exceptional faculty and its powerful mentorship model.

What moments or experiences at Kairos have been most meaningful in your journey?
My faculty mentor, Dr. Philip Thompson, was instrumental. He skillfully created the space for my growth while challenging me to achieve proficiency in both my mental and spiritual faculties. His academic prowess profoundly shaped my own.

I am also deeply grateful to other faculty members like Dr. Tony Blair, Dr. Ralph Korner—with whom I continue to collaborate on a vlogcast—and Dr. Phil Bollinger, whose genius in Old Testament studies left a lasting impression.

How has your love for Jesus grown during your time at Kairos?
The beauty of the Kairos model is that it premised my education in my ministry context. This helped me take immediate stock of the development in my leadership and ministry competencies, which I believe is a result of my growing love for Jesus. I also got almost immediate feedback from my colleagues, and the mentorship model equipped me with the skills to disciple and mentor those that God has placed in my stewardship.

I attended Kairos during a difficult period in my life, and my Kairos mentor team provided me with a shield and a safe place to debrief. In addition to developing discernment as a result of the learning, my mentor team provided me with compassion and accountability. This inevitably resulted in words becoming flesh. The discernment gained from readings and reflections was supplemented by the practical care of the team, which anchored me during the difficult days and odd times I participated in learning experiences.

What advice do you have for someone considering attending Kairos University?
The value I gained through the Kairos CBTE model is undeniable. Unlike traditional schooling, which often feels disconnected from real-life ministry, Kairos built my education around my actual work and context. I didn’t just accumulate credits; I gained proficiency in essential competencies because every lesson, reflection, and assignment was immediately applied and tested in my ministry context. Thanks to my personalized learning plan and my dedicated mentor team, I didn’t just learn about ministry, I was intentionally guided to a higher, proven level of practical proficiency and leadership, making my time in Kairos immensely effective and transformative.

How can the Kairos Community continue to support and pray for you in your current role?
Please pray for the work being done through the Elijah Mission Institute. The Elijah Mission Institute (EMI), developed from a Kairos contextual project, aims to “unite what the world divides” and is actively preparing global leaders through its Global Student Connect Cohorts. Currently involving students from the United States (Hope, Calvin, and UoM), South Africa (Stellenbosch), and Zambia (Chreso), EMI offers a unique cross-cultural, practical learning experience.
