Meet Gregory

Master of Arts, Kairos University

Lethbridge, Alberta

Lead Pastor at The Gate Church

We asked Gregory a few questions to learn more about his journey at Kairos. Here is what we discovered.

What led you to Kairos University?
As an alumnus of Taylor University College (2001-2005), Kairos felt like a natural school to attend as I pursued my Master’s degree. As a full time Pastor, I appreciated Kairos’s self-paced learning opportunities, its telos and focus on contextualizing the learning with my vocation. Furthermore, throughout my education journey, I discovered that I began to really value the mentor based structure within the program. Specifically, I would say that my faculty mentor, Dr. Ralph Korner, had a large influence on my learning journey as both a mentor and a professor and I’m incredibly grateful for his encouragement, wisdom, and input.

What moments or experiences at Kairos have been most meaningful in your journey?
As the only full time staff member of a smaller church, I don’t often get an opportunity to converse with peers over theology or even with what I’m learning or struggling with. As I entered into my journey with Kairos, I was hesitant and nervous about the mentor based structure (just thinking about having to have a discussion about my assignments and learnings made me apprehensive), but the more we met as a team, the more I realized the value of having mentors and peers come alongside us, in not only our education journey, but in our faith journey.

How has your love for Jesus grown during your time at Kairos?
One of the things I greatly appreciated throughout my Kairos experience was that I was constantly being asked, challenged, and encouraged to contextualize the content I was learning with both my personal faith and with my vocation. For me, this emphasis really helped me grow in my own faith, knowledge, and relationship with the Lord. I have been given so much more knowledge and tools to apply what I’ve learned as I serve the congregation I’ve been blessed to oversee.

What advice do you have for someone considering attending Kairos University?
My experience at Kairos University was definitely an enjoyable one! The Biblical knowledge, wisdom, resources, perspectives, input, and passion from my professors was much appreciated. The support from the staff and my mentor team was always helpful and reliable. And the discussions with other students– whether in online learning experience or during our Reflection in Community groups– was always hospitable and helpful. With that being said, I would definitely recommend Kairos to anyone who is looking to expand their faith and knowledge in the Word.

How can the Kairos Community continue to support and pray for you in your current role?
I would absolutely appreciate Kairos University’s continued prayer for me as I continue my role as Lead Pastor at The Gate Church in Lethbridge, AB.
