New Series: Creativity in Preaching

October 12, 2026

Over the next several weeks, we will be sharing a Creativity in Preaching blog series written by Rev. Dr. Heather Henson, Affiliate Professor and Adjunct in Pastoral Ministries and Preaching at Kairos. Henson leads the Creativity in Preaching Project for the Green Lake Conference Center. The Creativity in Preaching project is a Lilly Endowment–funded initiative at Green Lake Conference Center that equips pastors, people in ministry, and emerging leaders to experiment with imaginative, fresh approaches to preaching through immersive gatherings, creative labs, and intergenerational engagement. Kairos University is a partner in this initiative and is excited to share this blog series with the Kairos community.

Preaching is an important part of sharing the Gospel, and there are always new ways to approach the craft with creativity and imagination. The Creativity in Preaching Project explores fresh approaches to sharing the Good News. The project is inspired by the Greek word καινός, meaning “new” or “fresh,” found in Isaiah 43:19 where God says, “Behold, I am doing a new thing.”

Through these posts, Henson will explore creative approaches to preaching, offering fresh perspectives and practical ideas for rethinking how we communicate the Good News. Topics include imaginative preaching, noticing Scripture from new perspectives, inviting others to preach, and approaching preaching as an art rather than a formula.

Whether you preach regularly or are curious about new ways to share the gospel, this series will invite you to think creatively and consider new approaches to any form of preaching. As you explore each post, consider how creativity can challenge familiar practices, open new possibilities, and help us communicate the gospel in meaningful ways.
