Meet Natalie
Master of Arts, Kairos University
Burnaby, British Columbia
Administrative Associate, Elder, and Mission Group Leader at The Neighbourhood Church
We asked Natalie a few questions to learn more about her journey at Kairos. Here is what we discovered.
What led you to Kairos University?
After finishing my degree in teaching, I knew that I wanted to pursue more education. A few of my friends had completed their master’s degrees at Kairos. After exploring many different options, the competency-based education model and the ability to complete the work in one’s own neighbourhood attracted me to Kairos. My time at Kairos was an amazing experience. I learned that education is more than information, but rather the holistic transformation of a person in the area of content, character, and craft. I am a new person because of my time at Kairos.
What moments or experiences at Kairos have been most meaningful in your journey?
Kairos equips students to pursue degrees within the context of their own local church body. During my time at Kairos, new leadership opportunities emerged. I became an elder at our church and now also work on staff.
How has your love for Jesus grown during your time at Kairos?
With the guidance of my mentor team, my love for Jesus grew in three key areas during my time at Kairos.
My personal mentor helped me lean into disciplines such as prayer and fasting, meditating, scripture reading, and caring for the poor. Through intentionally leaning into the presence of Jesus, my relationship with Him went from following a list of rules to a friendship with the King of Kings.
My faculty mentor taught me the practices of hermeneutics and exegesis. As a result, the way I read God’s word is now much more informed, and I understand the importance of reading different translations and commentaries.
My vocational mentor helped me put all that I was learning into practice, by guiding me to pair what I was learning with my love of art. She helped me see that everything we do is an opportunity to join what God is already doing in the world.
How can the Kairos Community continue to support and pray for you in your current role?
I would love to pursue a PhD in the future. Please pray for the timing of this.
