CARES Act Student Emergency Aid

This serves as an acknowledgment that North American Baptist Seminary signed and returned to the Department the Certification and Agreement and the assurance that North American Baptist Seminary has used the applicable amount of funds designated under the CARES and CRRSAA (a)(1) and (a)(4) programs to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.

North American Baptist Seminary received $125,163 from the Department pursuant to the institution’s Certification and Agreement for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students under the CARES and CRRSAA (a)(1) and (a)(4) programs. The minimum required allocation to be awarded directly to students was $31,002.

As of June 30, 2020, North American Baptist Seminary has disbursed $15,300 in funds to 23 students.

As of September 30, 2020, North American Baptist Seminary has disbursed $3900 in funds to 7 students.

As of December 31, 2020, North American Baptist Seminary has disbursed $0 in funds to 0 students.

As of March 31, 2021, North American Baptist Seminary has disbursed $39,800 in HEERF funds to 46 students. We estimated there were a total of 475 students eligible to receive funds from HEERF.

The method(s) used by the institution to determine which students received the Emergency Financial Aid Grants and how much they would receive under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act was based on the eligibility requirements listed below. Students completed an online application. All eligible applicants were awarded grants of up to $1200.

Instructions, directions, and guidance provided by the institution to students concerning the Emergency Financial Aid Grants were that these funds are reserved for eligible students who, as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, have incurred expenses related to the disruption of their education including those related to food, housing, course materials, technology, healthcare, and childcare.

To be considered, students needed to:

  • Be enrolled at North American Baptist Seminary;
  • Be a US citizen or an eligible non-citizen;
  • Be eligible to participate in other federal aid programs;
  • Have a valid Social Security Number;
  • Be registered for Selective Service, if required;
  • Not be in default on a Title IV loan;
  • Have made satisfactory progress in their program;
  • Never been convicted of a crime involving fraud in obtaining Federal financial aid;
  • Have never been convicted of a drug offense while receiving Federal financial aid.

Application Process

  • An online application was made available but is now closed.
  • Funds were limited and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis to recipients with demonstrated need.
  • Once the funds were exhausted, the online application closed.
  • Recipients received notification of acceptance or denial within two weeks of applying.

Funds not used for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students were invested, as allowed, in the institution’s work to serve students impacted by the pandemic. This included $43,600 in tuition discounts.

Funding under the ARP program was returned to the Department in December of 2022. Funding in the amount of $80,563 was returned to the Department pursuant to regulations on funding allocations.
