We asked Holly a few questions to learn more about her journey at Kairos. Here is what we discovered.
What led you to Kairos University?
I have a love of learning and a love for God. Learning about and growing a deeper relationship with Him just became the next step for me. I had been taking courses through our local church, which had introduced me to a whole new way of reading and understanding the Old and New Testaments. After I had completed this set of courses, I heard about Evangelical Seminary and Kairos. I felt that God was opening a door for me to continue learning and growing in knowledge and faith.
What moments or experiences at Kairos have been most meaningful in your journey?
Church History II helped me to discover that I had theological connections to the Mercersburg Theology. I was able to read more on this as well as gain more wisdom on liturgical theology. This discovery helped me to see what I was struggling with in my local church. I had been missing and grieving the stream that I had grown up in and I was seeking a more liturgical and sacramental theology. This realization has helped me to find a church home in which I can thrive and feel the Lord’s call of peace and presence. It has been a wonderful realization to see the connections of my faith as a child and the stream that I was raised in coming back into alignment with where God is leading me today.
How has your love for Jesus grown during your time at Kairos?
Jesus opened my heart to the marginalized, the refugee, the outcast, and the unseen over my past two years at Kairos. The Lord developed a passion in my heart for those stuck in spiritual bondage. He sparked something in me to want to learn about, sit with, and help to set free those who have been oppressed.
Through study and prayer, I am now sitting with a group of ladies who are refugees from the Middle East. They are not yet believers in Christ, but I have such a love for them and for their hearts to be set free. Jesus modeled the heart of the Father in His earthly ministry, to love, care, and sit with the outsider. Through this caring practice today, I believe the Holy Spirit will draw them close to Christ.
What advice do you have for someone considering attending Kairos University?
God has utilized this program to change my heart and the ways in which I love others. The Holy Spirit has given me great confidence to keep moving forward in faith and follow God’s lead in this program.
How can the Kairos Community continue to support and pray for you in your current role?
I would appreciate prayers for wisdom as to what the next step for me vocationally would be. I have a love for the Afghan refugee women I am working with and their communal culture, as well as a deep curiosity about their faith and religious practice. I would be interested in learning more about Middle Eastern culture and religion so that I could be better equipped to communicate the Gospel and the love of Christ to them in a way that makes sense to them culturally and spiritually.
I would also ask for prayers over my family as I lead them into a love for those on the fringes of society and those who are seeking safety and hope. We are to be the light, the fragrant aroma of Christ attracting others to Him by the way we love and walk out our daily lives.
