Meet Tomas

Master of Divinity student, Kairos University

Calgary, Alberta

Young Adults Pastor

We asked Tomas a few questions to learn more about his journey at Kairos. Here is what we discovered.

What led you to Kairos University?
I was led to Kairos University because several colleagues had recommended it to me. In pursuing my masters, I did not want to simply gain knowledge, but become a better pastor, which Kairos is helping me do.

What I appreciate most about Kairos is their mentor-focused approach. This approach has put me in relationships with people who are cheering me along and coaching me. Particularly, Professor Ralph Korner has been an absolute blessing and asset to my journey. Walking patiently alongside me, coaching me in achieving master’s level work, and doing so with a deep joy and excitement for me. I never feel talked down to by Ralph, and always walked away encouraged. Did I mention how available the faculty have always been as well!?

What moments or experiences at Kairos have been most meaningful in your journey?
I never knew the importance a mentor could be in my journey. Those who have believed in me when I perhaps didn’t even believe in myself. I am incredibly grateful for the roles my mentors play in my life, ministry, and schooling.

How has your love for Jesus grown during your time at Kairos?
Kairos is already helping me in my first year of school be a better pastor! From a deeper exegetical understanding of the bible, to a more robust understanding of what ministry looks like, Kairos has helped me be more knowledgeable to those in my community and become a better communicator and a more empathetic listener.

What advice do you have for someone considering attending Kairos University?
Absolutely do it! Be prepared to be challenged beyond a knowledge base, but from a character standpoint too! You will come out of it a more refined Christian, a better theologian, and ultimately a more devoted follower of Christ. This is unlike any other university or seminary you could attend.

How can the Kairos Community continue to support and pray for you in your current role?
I love creating outreach opportunities to serve the unchurched community! However the load of school, full time ministry, a young family on my time and finances makes this increasingly difficult. I am loving the journey, despite the financial and time commitment it takes.
