Develop skills to “listen people to life” through discernment and prayer.

This non-credit bearing certificate of completion provides unique training for anyone desiring to “listen people to life” on their spiritual journeys.

Our spiritual direction program helps you notice God in the middle of everyday life. If you want to go deeper with God and learn how to walk with others in a thoughtful and prayerful way, this online cohort could be for you. You’ll join a community that makes room for prayer, listens for the Holy Spirit, and practices slowing down enough to truly notice what is happening in the lives of others.

This certificate of completion is designed for individuals who meet two of the following requirements:

• Currently meeting with a certified spiritual director, preferably for 4-6 months. Consider finding a spiritual director at www.graftedlife.org.
• Accepted into a Kairos degree program and are working on, or have completed, the Christian Spirituality outcome.
• Completed spiritual formation training with either Apprentice Institute, Renovare, Transforming Center, VantagePoint3, or others.

Program Overview

Listening People to Life is offered via Zoom. There is no residency requirement for this certificate program. Because this cohort is deeply relational, being present for each session matters. Our reflective, adult learner model values the experience, insight, and perspective that each participant brings.

Two cohorts will be offered in 2026:

• Cohort 1: Mondays, 6:30-8:30 PM CST, starting September 14, 2026.
• Cohort 2: Thursdays, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM CST, starting September 17, 2026.

Listening People to Life Demonstrated Competencies

This certificate of completion for Training in Spiritual Direction requires participation in a number of activities, projects, and tasks and focuses on the following competencies.

For the
Certificate
of Completion,
you must:

• Read at least the assigned readings and thoughtfully participate in class discussions and experiences.
• Be in spiritual direction throughout the program (minimum of 9 sessions) and write two reflection papers based on the director/directee sessions.
• Learn to ask meaningful questions.
• Participate in the listening people to life virtual retreat.
• Write a spiritual narrative that demonstrates God’s love; vulnerability, compassion, and redemptive living in Christ; and reflects living in the power of the Holy Spirit.
• Complete the Enneagram assessment.
• Lead a spiritual formation experience for the class.
• Create a collection of resources for use as a spiritual director.
• Learn how to establish a covenant with spiritual directees.
• Facilitate spiritual direction with three individual spiritual directees for a minimum of seven spiritual direction sessions, totaling 21 sessions (to be completed by the end of the commencing year).
• Complete a minimum of 21 hours of in-class supervised peer/group supervision.
• Learn to keep appropriate verbatims for each spiritual directee.
• Prepare a spiritual director profile/brochure.
• Participate in the Sabbath and Celebration retreat at the end of the commencing year.
• Has prepared a spiritual director professional development plan.
