Develop skills to “listen people to life” through discernment and prayer.

This non-credit bearing certificate of completion provides unique training for anyone desiring to “listen people to life” on their spiritual journeys.

The Listening People to Life Training in Spiritual Direction certificate of completion can be integrated into the Kairos Master of Arts program. Additional admissions materials, costs, and coursework are required for participation at the master’s level.

Cohort sessions are typically held on either Monday evenings or Thursday mornings between September and May for two consecutive years. The Fall 2024 cohort is now full. New inquiries will be directed to a future cohort. The next start date is to be determined.

Program Overview

Listening People to Life is offered via Zoom. There is no residency requirement for this certificate program. Cohorts are typically offered annually. Meeting days/times vary per cohort but have included Mondays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Central or Thursdays from 10 a.m. – 12 Noon Central.

This certificate of completion requires prior learning in a spiritual formation program such as The Journey with VantagePoint3, the Transforming Center, the Apprentice Institute, etc. as well as an interview and a meeting with a certified spiritual director prior to admission.

Listening People to Life Demonstrated Competencies

This certificate of completion for Training in Spiritual Direction requires participation in a number of activities, projects, and tasks and focuses on the following competencies.

For the
Certificate
of Completion,
you must:

• Read at least the assigned readings and thoughtfully participate in class discussions and experiences.
• Be in spiritual direction throughout the program (minimum of 18 sessions) and write four reflection papers based on the director/directee sessions.
• Learn to ask meaningful questions.
• Participate in the listening people to life spiritual life retreat.
• Write a spiritual narrative that demonstrates God’s love; vulnerability, compassion, and redemptive living in Christ; and reflects living in the power of the Holy Spirit.
• Complete the Clifton Strengths Assessment and Enneagram and understand their influence in spiritual formation and direction.
• Lead a ten-minute spiritual formation experience for the class.
• Create a Spiritual Disciplines binder for their use as a spiritual director.
• Learn how to establish a covenant with spiritual directees.
• Meet in spiritual direction with three individual spiritual directees for a minimum of six spiritual direction sessions, totaling 18 sessions (to be completed by the end of the commencing year).
• Complete a minimum of 18 hours of in-class supervised peer/group supervision.
• Learn to keep appropriate verbatims for each spiritual directee.
• Prepare a spiritual director profile/brochure.
• Participate in the Sabbath and Celebration retreat at the end of the commencing year.
• Has prepared a spiritual director professional development plan.
